Since 1990's, economic globalization and regional economy integration have been the main tendency of the world economy. Many countries have joined the bilateral or multilateral international economic cooperation. East Asia is one of the regions in the world which has much activity. However, comparing to NAFTA and EU, the integration process of it is slow.In recent years, East Asia, one of three greatest places in the world, obviously facing the challenge of economic globalization, has been active in economy internationalization and globalization. There are "10+1" and "10+3"cooperation that are based on ASEAN, established in 1967.And it is the biggest regional organization in East Asia whose aim is to cooperate in politics and economy. Now, China, as the biggest developing country, has been a member of WTO. After more than 20 years' development, it has gained strong economy. Now it is very important for China to join the integration organization. So the establishment of China-ASEAN free trade agreement is very important for China, and it will make notable impact on China. Facing the tide of economic globalization and regional economic integration, it would mean more importance in theory and practice to make a research on China-ASEAN free trade area under the big background of East Asia economic unification, and on how to realize the unification. This paper makes a research upon the above issues through the methodologies of institutional analysis, comparison, conclusion and deduction.In a word, this paper makes a comprehensive analysis of economic foundation of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area. It makes a research on China-ASEAN Free Trade Area under the big background of East Asia economic unification, and gives good advice on the modes and prospect towards East Asia economic unification. The paper makes the creative points that the free trade area is flexible and has expansion effect by itself, and, particularly, a few free trade areas have motive mechanism for having mutually merging and mutual fusion.
