Chinese Factor Within East Asian Regional Cooperation

The second wave of regionalism's development and the financial crisis in Asia happened in 1997 have promoted Asia's cooperation and development. However, the profound political and economical circumstances result in the consequence that East Asia cooperation should be a relaxed and weakly systemized open regionalism. As a power in East Asia, China has abandoned the centric diplomacy tradition like seclusionism and began to participate in the world system's building-up with the new orientation to the status of "Asia country".With the case of APO, the thesis analyzes the process and characteristics of East Asia cooperation with regionalism theory, emphasizes cooperation between two forces including Asean and China, studies the situation and resistance of the APO, and thus discusses the significance of East Asia's cooperation. As far as China concerned, APO is not only the main part of the East Asia cooperation, but also the first step for China to participate in building up the current international system. It's very important that we focus on the APO's development process and sum up experience for Chinese diplomatic policy's formulation and diplomatic idea's development. Hence the thesis analyzes China's status and role in the East Asia cooperation, and studies how to develop the relationship between Asean and China. Conclusively, the significance of East Asia cooperation's development and China's participating in the regional cooperation can be carried out by building-up and taking part in building-up the international cooperation system.
