Texture synthesis and texture mapping are the important technologies to obtain the realistic 3D model and become the hot topics in the computer graphics. They have been widely used in the fields of virtual reality scene, television animation and virtual museum etc. Different from the traditional two-dimensional and three-dimensional texture synthesis, this paper presents a multi-resolution texture synthesis algorithm based on turntable image sequences to facilitate the storage, transmission and other usage of texture map.In contrast with classical texture mapping algorithm, the proposed multi-resolution texture mapping algorithm overcomes the monotony of texels and the low speed of synthesis, furthermore, people can get different texturing mapping results according to their requirement. The proposed algorithm can be decomposed into three steps: firstly, computes the RGB color value of each vertex from the calibrated image sequence and constructs a texture triangulation according to the set resolution; secondly, a rapid and efficient rectangular texture map construction algorithm is applied to generate a high-quality texture map with the texture continuity of adjacent triangles in the 3D space; Finally, loads the texture map to the input 3D mesh model and uses texture mapping algorithm to get a textured 3D object surface model. The proposed algorithm has been implemented on several real object models and the experimental results reveal that the proposed algorithm can keep the similarity between the textured model and the real object quite well.
