With the development of economy and progress of science and technology, many nonlinear electrical equipments are used in power system, which bring some convenience to people. However, harmonic that these equipments produce affects the power quality. There are some measures such as PF, APF and HAPF which are used to eliminate harmonic. HAPF is widely studied and applied.Although HAPF makes some progress in reducing capacity of APF, its performance needs to be improved. This paper presents a novel parallel hybrid active power filter based on magnetic flux compensation and shunt technology of harmonic current. The novel active power filter can reduce capacity of APF effectively, areas that PF hold and improve the performance of HAPF.This paper analyzes working principle of the novel parallel hybrid active power filter. its mathematic model is established to analyze and simulate its transient and steady-state characteristics. The characteristics include the voltage that APF withstands and APF capacity needed. In addition, when parameters of PID and PF are changed, this paper analyze its impact on the performance of HAPF. The results indicate the principle is correct and can reduce capacity of APF.
