The image texture is one of real image region inherent characteristics,reflecting the nature of the images'grayscale and spatial relationships. Started from the 1970s, people started to study the texture, and has made the encouraging progress. Scholars in different fields to study the texture based on the definition put forward a corresponding number of texture characterization methods and extraction methods. According to different methods of texture feature extraction, which can be divided into the following four categories: statistical analysis, structural analysis, model analysis and spatial / frequency domain joint analysis. Studies the image in view of various domains the characteristic to be different, each method's application also manifests the nimble compatibility. However, textural feature's practical application, actually receives the mathematical computation and the image during actual characteristic the corresponding relationships research deficient limit, Significantly behind the research of the texture feature extraction method. Today, the remote sensing technique rapidly expands, the remote sensing image data becomes the geometry level growth, the applied research of remote sensing images'texture features appears especially important.Based on the TM image, the research of the relationship between texture features and vegetation index, Mainly in the 3S technical support, access to higher resolution of the TM remote sensing image data, and processe it step by step in ERDAS,and then extract the corresponding land-use types'area in Arcgis, after the overlay analysis, obtains the transformation data of the types earth area in the research districs between different time, then confirm the reasons and the mechanism of the remote sensing images'textural features changes. The texture features are extracted mainly in the MATLAB which image processing platform. Through the study of this paper, mainly has made the progress in the following several aspects:1, through the research of remote sensing image vegetation index and texture characteristics'theory, establishs the remote sensing image texture features have some correlation with the vegetation index, the average number of gray series by the T test results for a high degree of correlation;2, in the ERDAS and ARCGIS platform, after processing and analysis the experimental area image data, Obtained the experimental area various land utilization type area and the transformation matrix. By analyzing proposed, the reasons and mechanisms for changes in the various land-use types.3, though the texture feature extraction experiments completed in the MATLAB image processing platform, obtained the related texture feature of various types of land which have different vegetation covers.4, using the extracted texture features of the data and vegetation index data, mainly researched the third-order moments'change between remote sensing images and vegetation index images. In this paper, take a high urbanization Shapingba District'City District, Geleshan town with a high degree of vegetation cover and zhongliang town's land cover types changed significantly as the typical regions of the study, carried out the following research work: First, according to the changes of the three districts'TM images, briefly carried out in various regional land use types change research; second, based on the relationship between the changes of the texture characteristics of the study area and vegetation index, comparioned the texture features, especially the characteristics of the third-order moment. Finally, according to the various land-use types'statistical area and the transformation matrix, provides an objective basis for the meaning of the practical application of the third-order moment on the data, in the same time provides some reference for the study of the third-order moments and other texture features texture characteristics.
