The Resources Survey And Framework Design Of Theme Database Of Scientific Data Of Injury

Background As the changes of disease patterns of population, injury is increasingly becoming a public health problem that seriously harm to the health of the population. In China, injury research began in the 1980s.In the past three decades, China has made some progress in the field of injury research, and accumulated high value of scientific data. National Scientific Data Sharing Platform for Population and Health was officially launched in April 2004.The framework design of theme database of scientific data of population and health is the important task of National Scientific Data Sharing Platform for Population and Health. Theme database is the basis for resources sharing, and the framework design of theme database is essentially the process for the classification of resources of scientific data. This study is the sub-task of the design of resources system for National Scientific Data Sharing Platform for Population and Health, and also is an application research of the framework design of the theme database. Classifying the scientific data resources of injury according to certain principles and methods, which means to carry out the resources planning and framework design of theme database of scientific data of injury, can offer practical and systematic approach of the collection and organization of scientific data resources of injury, and can avoid repetitive research, and also can mine useful information from the existing research results, adding value to scientific data,in order to carry out research better.Objective This study aims to understand the distribution of scientific data resources of injury, and then take on the study of the framework design of the theme database of scientific data of injury, and improve the existing basic set of injury furtherly.Data Source In the study, One way to obtain scientific data of injury is from Scientific Data Resource Manual of Population and Health,only including the part of injury study; another way is from National scientific literature(Chinese Medical Current Contents CMCC,China Hospital Knowledge Database CHKD and wanfang database, due to March 2010),screening on the original research papers, which is 1263. Methods First of all, carry on the expert consultation method, determining the source of scientific data of injury, survey methods and the classification of injury that was applied in the research; then use resource survey methods, to understand the distribution of scientific data of injury; finally apply theme database design method in resource planning and design for the scientific data of injury, in order to establish the framework of theme database of scientific data of injury.Results Among the 1263 injury literature, the top three in order are road traffic accidents (61.02%), environmental and natural factors induced injuries(15.01%) and mechanical injury(13.56%)..This study establishes the framework classification of theme database of scientific data of injury, which is organized, respectively by four dimensions.That is demographic characteristics (including number, age, gender, education, occupation); injury state (including injury intent, injury causes, injury nature, injury position, injury-occurred location and the activities when the injury occured);injury treatment and care (including the demand for medical care, treatment site);injury outcomes (including the severity of injury, disability caused by injury, injury impact and injury-related death).And then describe the attributes of data element under each dimension,also make a definition and coding clearly. Combining the characteristics of road traffic accidents, adding the victim state, the role of the injured, the nature of the collision objects, the frequency use of seat belts and the frequency use of safety helmets these above five data elements,and make a standardized description.Conclusions The resources survey of injury literature indicates that among the 413 literature, road traffic accidents accounted for 61.0%, which means that is a research focus currently in the field of injury research in China. The Framework classification of theme database of injury, can be divided into four dimensions:demographic characteristics, injury state, injury treatment and care,injury outcomes.
