With the continuous progress of science and technology, medical images have been a extremely vital aid of doctor diagnosis and treatment. Among them, the computed tomography (CT) technology becomes a main method of pathological and anatomical research, because of its high image resolution and little body damage. The medical image may massively provide effective information in the field of clinical,morphology etc, but doctors are always only interested in certain parts of the image, based on this background, medical image segmenting techniques develop.Extracting the image information which doctors require is the main research content of medical image segmentation technology.and it is also a key step of three-dimensional reconstruction.And the segmentation result influences the accuracy of reconstruction.In the areas of oral implant, restorative and dental orthodontic and others,the accurate three-dimensional model of dental tissue is required for surgical planning and bio-mechanical analysis.Based on the medical image,segmenting the accurate of teeth data to reconstruct perfect dental three-dimensional model provides a good science tool for the development of dental medicine.Research and analyse the principle of the emergence about CT images,and the image coding technology which is based on DICOM standard,and some medical image preprocessing techniques. For the particularity of dental CT images after pretreatment , a integration segmentation algorithm is proposed based on thresholding and region growing.In the process of integration segmentation,apply the principle of fuzzy maximum entropy to automaticly select the threshold,and apply improved region growing method to select a seed.And the automatic selecting of threshold and seeding completes the segmentation process of automation. .Moreover, based on the comparability of interlayer mapping ,propose a sequential segmentation method,which reduces the heavy workload and greatly improves work efficiency. We design our own teeth image segmentation system,based on the full study of Medical Image Software Development Kit MITK which is developed by the Medical Image Processing Group ,Institute of Automation, the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This system implements the interface design by VC + +6.0. And it now has some functions, such as ,data reading, preprocessing of CT images, segmenting of dental CT images and data preservation and so on. The results confirm that the system can easily, fast, effectively, automaticly segment the dental tissue, and will provide good data support for dental three-dimensional reconstruction, and will make the design of orthodontic diagnosis and treatment more accurate and standardized.
