IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) is a new network architecture for providing multimedia service in the next generation wireless networks. The 3GPP R5 and R6 standards have specified the use of IPv6 and IPv4 for the IMS. However, the speed and scale of IPV6 deployment of network and clients are both under expectation. As the transition and migration to IPv6 of the core and IMS clients, the intercommunication between core and clients with different IP capability must be solved. In this paper, classical technology on migration from IPv4 to IPv6 and relevant 3GPP standards are fully investigated. Considering development of current IMS network, Session Border Controller (SBC) between IMS network and clients and Interconnect Session Border Controller between different IMS network are introduced to handle the above isuses. The entity is aimed to implement the following functions:1. Support intercommunication between core network and clients with different IP capacity.2. Support NAT traversal3. Support topology information security and user information security4. IPv6 promotionIn this paper, SBC/I-SBC prototype is successfully implemented based on JAIN-SIP v1.1 and deployed in IMS test platform as well.
