As the increasing requirements of the bandwidth and quality of the access network from enterprises and households, data rates of broadband access network will be required. The optical access technology based on the structure of PON has been rapid development. So optical access technologies can provide more than Gbit/s transmission rate such as EPON and GPON have begun to be commercially used. But for the WDM-PON technology, although it can provide wider bandwidth and becomes one of the most important candidates of the next generation access network is not widely used in commerce, because it contains too many devices and the cost of the system is very high. The papers proposed and demonstrated two kinds of WDM-PON with centralized light-wave architectures.These new WDM-PON architectures can reduce the number of light sources used in the system, simplify the system structure and reduce the cost, so contribute the WDM-PON to practical.The thesis mainly studies the following contents:1.The thesis first proposed and demonstrated the WDM-PON with centralized light-wave based on Super-continuum light source. The thesis studies the signal state in the major point of the system and the work distance of the system. The paper also investigates how the parameters affect the system performance mainly including how the output of comb filter bandwidth affect the system performance, and so on.The simulation studies show the feasibility and practical of the system.2.The thesis also proposed a new style WDM-PON architecture with centralized light-wave. In this architecture, DQPSK-modulated signals at 10Gb/s are utilized for downstream transmission. At optical network unit (ONU) the downstream signal is remodulated for upstream on-off keying (OOK) data at 10Gb/s.The thesis investigates the relation of the received power and BER for the downstream and upstream in back to back and 20km fiber transmission system. The paper also studies the impact of remodulation to the system and finds that by using EDFA in the upstream, this system can extend the working distance in evidence.3.The thesis also studies the scalability performances of the WDM-PON architecture of DQPSK-OOK remodulation with centralized light-wave.The paper investigates the performance of the system when the bit rate of the downstream is updated to 40Gb/s.The system shows good scalability.So the paper shows two kinds of WDM-PON architectures with centralized light-wave.These two structures are able to simplify the system structure and reduce the cost of system. While the paper also study the performance of the systems and verify the practicality characters.The paper also studies the scalability of the WDM-PON with DQPSK-OOK remodulation architecture, and the simulation results show it is scalability. These studies will contribute WDM-PON system to practical use as soon as possible.
