Nowadays, telecom software is no longer dependent on specified equipments, but can run on general-purpose computers, by which the design, development and maintenance can be much easier. At the same time, in order to address issues such as power consumption and heat, multi-core computer devices are being widely used, as the result of which, the serial infrastructure can no longer be adapted to these new trends. How to maximize parallelism is becoming the new concern. In this paper, the theoretics and methodology for evaluating and optimizating are given as the basic foundation for the development of the telecom software on multi-core platform. The baseline performance and scalability are the key aspects we focused on in the process. By specifically describing the evaluating and optimizating process of a real telecom software, SIP SMS Center, theory and practice will be linked together to give readers a clear knowledge of telecom software's development on multi-core platform. In this analysis and optimization process, we improved the encoding and decoding algorithm, employed multi-process and multi-thread design patterns to increase the parallelism, and analyzed specifically the dynamic memory allocation algorithm of the LINUX kernel, all of which made the performance and the scalability a qualitative leap over. To improve the accuracy and comprehensiveness, a well designed test infrastructure would be presented.
