Wireless mesh network draws more and more attention for its high liability, strong self-organization and self-healing.At the same time, network coding and opportunistic routing can effectively improve the data throughput of wireless mesh networks. Thus they have quickly become the hot research directions in this field recently.Firstly, this paper describes the problems existed in the WMN, and shows the great improvement when network coding and opportunistic routing are utilized, then a new opportunistic routing protocol (MORE) based on network coding is introduced. This protocol can deal with the negotiation problem in opportunistic routing effectively, and it introduces a new distribution-based dispatch algorithm, which can improve the throughput of the network. However, since MORE is based on path metric and uses short message to detect the channel condition periodically, and the assumed probability of packet loss has nothing to do with the size, but are independent and identically distributed, the network performance will be affected. In view of these, an improved protocol is proposed, which can improve the throughout by redesign the channel condition measurement mechanism, and we have validated the effectiveness through OPNET simulation platform. By comparing the results,we can find improved MORE can increase the throughout by 35%.The paper also analyzes the structure of implementation and operational process in Linux, and builds experimental platform to validate them. In summary, this paper proposes the MORE which can achieve great data throughput gain in wireless mesh network.
