Language is evolving all the time. Those who often surf on the Internet use network language to communicate with each other and gradually they become a sub-culture group. While the sub-culture group grows the influence of network language grows simultaneously. More and more network language is used in the news reports on paper, radio and TV, etc. In this paper the network language in reports is used as the starting point to explain the status of network language in China and how network language is used in different kinds of mass media. Both the history of Chinese network language and the history of using network language in mass media in China are included in this study. Besides the search of the former researches, there is audience analysis in this paper as well. Case study is used to demonstrate the network language in reports. Three websites and two newspapers are selected as the sample of the analysis. They are Sina News Center, Sohu News Center,163 News Center, Jiefang Daily and Xinmin Evening News. Questionnaires and individual interviews are used to study the network language in reports and expose the "uses and gratifications" theory behind all these. This paper attempts to show the wide usage of network language in the mass media and also to locate the problems of using it, discussing the regulation and the standardization of network language in reports.
