Vast amounts of data appear with the digital wave, the world is entering an era of network storage. People face troubles with DAS (Direct Attached Storage). Traditional storage architecture cannot come up with the development of internet services, which are becoming more and more diversified and complicated. Several new kinds of storage architectures appear and bring enormous change to the world. NFS (Network File System) is one of the most common protocols used nowadays. But the default setting of NFS is based on SYN UDP, which cannot achieve traffic control during communication and easily results in performance barriers in a heavy-loading network storage system.According to the demand of airborne storage, this paper analyzes the NFS protocol on a stable and reliable real time operating system- VxWorks, and design optimization for the NFS protocol based on queuing theory. The main works are presented as follows:1) Introduction of the development of storage architecture, including DAS (Direct Attached Storage), NAS (Network Attached Storage), and SAN (Storage Area Network). Compare each other and choose the proper one for airborne storage demand.2) Analysis of RPC (Remote Procedure Call) and NFS (Network File Storage). Introduction of RPC includes the RPC message format, XDR (eXternal Data Representation) and port mapper. Introduction of NFS includes NFS v3 protocol, data structure and features.3) According to queuing theory, confirmed the goal of NFS software design and improvement on VxWorks real-time operation system.4) Implement the NFS software, and make validations on VxWorks testing environment.
