The modeling experiments is an effective means to study the geological structure, and an important means to help the geologists to understand the process of structural deformation and the formation mechanism of structure. The experimental results of three-dimensional(3D) reconstruction can help the geologists to observe the structure simulation results of deformation within the sandbox.On the basis of analysis and research of the sand box sand CT tomography image characteristics, the paper proposes the technical solutions and methods of process and focuses on the image preprocessing, segmentation, and the 3D reconstruction. The sandbox CT image preprocessing and segmentation mainly discusses the aspects of the display of images, image enhancement, image filtering, template matching and a number of image segmentation techniques. By comparing with several major image enhancement, image filtering and image segmentation algorithm, the paper analyzes of the various methods on the accuracy and efficiency, and also propose an improved template matching algorithm and anisotropic diffusion equation based on mathematical morphology. The improved method can effectively reduce the noise interference, enhance the image features, and extract the sand mark line. The part of 3D reconstruction mainly studies the surface rendering and the volume rendering algorithm, and compares with the advantages and disadvantages of these two categories algorithm, and finally selectes the surface rendering of the classic algorithm-MC algorithm to achieve this 3D reconstruction, and the 3D image can basically meet the needs of geologists.
