With the level of development in computer technology and medical imagingtechnology ,there are more and more manufactures in imedical imaging equipment andPACS system. But the range of medical imaging format and transmission method is widelydifferent. This hampered information transmission among PACS system of various devices.Therefore, to standardize the exchange of image formats and related information, in 1985American College of Radiology and the National Electronic Manufacturers, jointly developedthe standard of digital imaging and communication ,that is DICOM. Afterseveral years ofthe standard version of update, in 1993, the Digital Imaging and Communication Standard 3.0has been Formalized.DICOM standard as a international standards and norms, being complied byoverwhelming majority of medical imaging equipment and information systems providers .There is no doubt that the PACS standards play an important among the medical imagingequipment and systems and the interconnection between the open (interconnectivity) andvideo interoperability (interoperability).This paperintroduces the developmentbackgroundof DICOMstandard, history of itsformation, components, and detailedly study the information model of DICOM and DICOMdata format and file format.On the basis of in-depth study of the DICOM network layermodel ,this paper study the remote transmission of medical images.On basis of DICOMnetwork design of three levels of hierarchy to achieve medical video communications. theupperone is the DICOM Application Entity, the middle-layerare classes of service elements and services of object(SOP), the bottom-layer is the classes for DICOM message exchangeand communications support.This paper also introduce the data compression which is important to the networktransmission, and the compression methods supported by DICOMprotocol .In medical image processing,This paperdescribes the development of medical imageprocessing technology status,Then introduced the characteristics and imaging principles ofmedical CTimages. Focuses on the brain CTimage edge detection method.The edge detection of CT image showed weak performances,we use wavelet and thecubic B-spline smoothing filter operator and combined it with the embedded confidence foredge detection。The method used to obtain a good resultforedge detection.Running environmentof software is Windows system, software developmentmethods isobject-oriented , use VC+ +6.0 as developsoftware.
