The Wireless Mesh Network is a new type of wireless communication network. WMN is capable of self-organization and multi-hop routing. It is a multi-hop broad bandwidth distributing wireless network with high capacity and high transmission rate. For several years, WLAN has developed well, but the covered area of its AP is limited, so if we want to set WLAN in a large area, we need lots of APs, which will be expensive. WMN can solve this problem. The covered area of WMN can be expanded because each node in WMN can transfer data. As a new type of network structure, mesh is included into 802.16-2004, 802.16e and the coming 802.11s standards.WMN combines the advantages of Ad hoc network and traditional WLAN, which makes it easier to integrate into the mainstream network– Internet. This thesis is about the study of routing algorithm in Wireless Mesh Network. Firstly, the structure, feature and application of Wireless Mesh Network are introduced in the paper. Secondly, several routing protocols of Wireless Mesh Network are enumerated followed by the analysis on their advantage and disadvantage. Thirdly, a detailed analysis is made in HWMP routing protocol. Lastly, based on AODV routing protocol, a new wireless mesh network routing protocol is proposed. The simulation results express that average delay and packet average delivery ratio of the new routing protocol are all improved when the network load is high.
