The MAC layer functions have changed due to the introduction of HSDPA in the base station (Node B) of the TD-SCDMA system. The newly added MAC-hs function entity is mainly incharge of the HARQ function, scheduling and priority handling. Through the use of AMC, HARQ, Higher-order Modulation (16QAM) besides fast scheduling at the base station and other technologies, the system can quickly and adaptively reflect the changes in the user channel to obtain a high user peak data rate and cell data throughput, and to reduce latency as much as possible. The paper first describes the development of HSDPA system and its key technologies. Then, based on the system model described in the specifications, the author analyzes in detail the parts of the structure of the TD-HSDPA system, in dealing with each other on the timing and the algorithm used in the designing of the system. Then, based on the description of the algorithm and the TD-SCDMA system platform in the multi-core DSP chips picoArray, the author gives a detailed design of the TD-HSDPA system about the base station. Including the MAC-layer function entity as well as the new physical layer data paths, the paper gives a detailed design and implementation of the overall structure of the specific modules, interfaces as well as the specific processing procedure. Finally a brief discussion about the entire project designing and debugging is given. The entire development work is summarized and some future research directions are proposed.
