Analog-photonic links have been wildly used as key parts in space communication systems and optical communication systems. Meanwhile, varieties of new link technologies and system schemes aimed to maximize link performance are kept being proposed and developed. In this paper, the system performance of the latest analog photonic link scheme using phase modulation and coherent detection is discussed in detail on the RF gain, noise figure, dynamic range and compared with the traditional intensity modulation-direct detection system and the improved phase modulation-interferometric detection scheme. The result is simulated with MATLAB software. Obviously, the phase modulation-interferometric detection scheme offers certain practical advantages, but it's limited in the system performance improvement. In contrast, the phase modulation-coherent detection scheme offers very high RF gain and noise figure performance, yet there are still a lot of technical difficulties to be solved due to its system complexity and the high-cost it brings, thus this new scheme needs further research and improvement. |
