While 3G is coming, the various applications occur. In all these services, instant message communication and group communication are in the very important position. Most of these new services use XML technology for the transmission of information. The XML documents become a general way in the access of information. For the shared services, IETF and OMA create a series of the standard in the instant message, presence service and group communication. These standards consider the future service development, provide the good extendibility and maneuverability. All of these are very important to presence service and group service. This article describes the design and implementation of XML document service management in the OMA architecture. The access of XML document uses the XML configuration access protocol (XCAP). XCAP can express the various level xml elements flexibly. XML document management implements the three kinds of XML documents. It includes shared group, presence rule and resource list. The XML document management composes of the logical control function and the data function. The logical control function is entry of all requests. It parses the XCAP request, transfer this request to the correct data function and send the response to client. The data function is used to store XML data. It creates a thread pool to receive the different XML document requests synchronously. All data are stored the real-time database, including creating, modifying, deleting. The data function uses the pair mechanism. The main data function and the backup data function can be switched when something crashed. The XML document management uses the distributed architecture, so it can be extended to the different XML services.
