To build a converged network that supports multiple technologies and mulitiple frequency bands is the development trend for mobile operators in the future. At present, some CDMA operators determine to evolve to 3 GPP LTE(Long Term Evolution) through updating the current HPRD (High Rate Packed Data) network. Initially operators decide to upgrade the HRPD to evolved HPRD, and make evolved HRPD serve as the interface to data service seamless handover between two different networks. In a long time period, LTE network needs to interoperate with HRPD network to provide good user experience. In the stage of field-testing, the author participated the theoretical research and design of packet data gateway in HRPD and LTE interworking network.This Paper summarizes the pre-project research, needs analysis, system design and implementation.In this paper, based on detailed functions and requirements analysis on services, charging and mobility management of core network gateway in the HRPD-LTE interworking network, we design a product architecture for HSGW(HRPD Serving Gateway) in HRPD-LTE interworking core network. This paper first introduces the knowledge on HRPD and LTE interworking. Then, it elaborates the sub-system design and logic module design of HSGW, which are the key points of this paper. HSGW system design utilizes the original packet data gateway platform, adopts modular solution and implements refined management of services and charging. It is backward compatible with PDSN (Packet Data Serving Node), and supports 2G/3G and LTE interworking and smooth evolution. Moreover, it uses multi-thread signaling distribution mechanism to effectively improve processing capacity and power consumption performance. Subsequently, the paper presents the system test. The test results show that the design meets the expected requirements and has good operability and reliability. Finally, it concludes the whole study and specifies the issues in further study.
