With the development of social and scientific technology, Telecommunication service applications are evoluted from narrow-band voice of traditional telephone services to the multimedia broadband services of high-speed data and high-definition video. Optical access network is most suitable to the development of broadband solutions in the future.At present, WDM technology get a wide range of applications in the backbone network and metropolitan network, along with the growing demand for user bandwidth, how to introduction WDM technology in the access network, has aroused extensive attention. WDM-PON is a large capacity, easy upgrade, high security network technology in the next generation of access network.The first chapter of this paper first introduced the development status of optical access network at home and abroad, and then compared PON with traditional networks; second chapter analyzed the current situation of WDM-PON, and discussed the prospect of WDM-PON in the future; third chapter discusses the key technologies of WDM-PON, including those based on two different principles of the colorless ONU realize methods and principles, and analyzed the survival mechanism of WDM-PON; fourth chapters analysis the structure and theory of the WDM-PON of the WDM-PON, and study of the WDM-PON wavelength allocation program as well wavelength shared WDM-PON MAC protocol model; fifth chapter is the summarized of the paper.
