Many diseases clinical symptom varies with figure and quantity of red blood cell, so itis very important to study the red blood cell figure and quantity. Counting red blood cell isan indispensable task in the clinical diagnose and medicine research area.In earlier, it is inspected mainly by operator and the process is complicated,time-consuming, and low-efficiency. Along with the development of the computertechnology, especially for the digital image processing techniques, digital image processinghave become one of the useful tool for the segmentation, recognition and quantitative of redblood cell.This dissertation studies mainly on the counting algorithm of red blood cell in themicroscope image. Firstly, the dissertation introduces the development of counting of redblood cell. Secondly, Theory of digital image processing relating to the counting of themicroscope cell image has been discussed, such as digital image, image format, image filter,color space. Thirdly, this dissertation discusses that segmentation is a key step during the redblood cell image processing. The segmentation result has direct influence on the countingaccuracy and segmentation has been completed with the boundary-tracing algorithm. At last,we use two-scan measure to count the red blood cell, the counting efficiency is advanced.
