Embedded technology and multimedia communication technology are two focuses of the information society. With the development of the modern science and technology, the incorporation of the embedded technology and multimedia communication technology will bring enormous business opportunities to the information industry. The key character of the information society is the information acquisition is convenient and the application of the information is of extensive use. As we know, the image contains bulk information, so the acquisition and communication of the image is the key study area of the technology in the information society.This thesis focuses on the design of a wireless video transmission system based on the embedded technology. In this wireless video transmission system, the network device is used in a local area .One of the network nodes is the major node, the other nodes are responsible for image data acquisition. The major node can control the whole local area network and choose one of the network nodes as the image data resource. Then the major node can receive the image data via radio channel. This wireless video transmission system will be of great application particularly in the dangerous area where the workers may get harm, in some complicated circumstances where is hard to install the wire and in some distributed control system. Moreover, this network can be extended to meet more applications, such as connecting this network to a server and transmit the image data to the Internet via the server.This thesis firstly gives an introduction of the development and the prospect of the video transmission and embedded technology, and concludes that adopting embedded technology and wireless communication technology will meet the demand of the video transmission in the information society. Then, the thesis proposes the basis function and the implement plan of the system, dividing it into three core modules as video capturing module, video coding and decoding module and wireless transmission module. The system adopts ARM and embedded Linux as the development platform, and the thesis elaborates the design and implement of the core module of the system. The video capturing module and video coding and decoding module take use of CSI and eMMA module in the i.MX21 processor. The MPEG-4 coding scheme is used in video coding and decoding. The wireless transmission module use wireless network card base on USB interface and a set of protocols based on UDP and RTP is adopted to complete the video transmission effectively. Because of the incorporation of the above technology, the wireless video transmission system can be implemented.
