H.264/AVC(H.264/Advanced Video Coding) is the latest compressed video coding standard which is proposed by the ITU-T(Telecommunication Standardization Sector for International Telegraph Union) Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) and the ISO(International Organization for Standards) Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). Creatively, it brings a lot of new thoughts and great improvements on the coding and decoding algorithms compared with former standards on video compressing so that the coding performance has been greatly advanced, and the compatibility with kinds of networks has been greatly improved too. These advantages make the H.264/AVC popular in many scenes containing video applications. Nowadays, as wireless mobile communication technology developing continually, the next studying hotspot would be focused on wireless video transmission. Considering that the video information always contains a large quantity of data and requires a channel with better performance and large capability, while the MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology which is widely considered as one of the key technology used in the next 4G wireless communication standard would cater for the demand of video transmission, we could put the transmission of H.264 video stream into the MIMO system, so that we could combine the advantages of both technologies, and get improvements on the quality of wireless multimedia communications.In this thesis, we discus on the combination of H.264 and MIMO system and proposed a strategy about wireless video transmission. The details are specified as follows:(1) Firstly the characteristic of H.264 is briefly introduced. Then the structure of H.264 code stream which is bound up with our study is particularly analyzed. Based on the analysis, the UEP(Unequal Error Protection) scheme based on NALU(Network Abstraction Unit) is discussed.(2) MIMO system, space-time-coding(STC) and space-frequency-coding(SFC) scheme are introduced particularly. Then the cyclic delay and antenna grouping technology used in them are deeply discussed. According to the demand of transmission of H.264 code stream, the scheme of space-frequency-coding using cyclic delay and antenna grouping is improved.(3) Aiming at the requirement for UEP in the transmission of H.264 code stream, the characteristic of the scheme proposed before is combined and a video transmission scheme based on MIMO system is designed. The simulation results show that the scheme using cyclic delay and antenna grouping technology has improved the quality of the video transmitted greatly.
