This paper makes a tentitve study on the method of belt-material velocity detection based on laser Doppler effect. In the process of belt-material manufacture in industry, it is crucial to accurately detected the velocity of Belt-material. Meanwhile, effectively detecting the parameters of belt-material velocity and feedbacking to the control system is necessary to ensure the production of high quality steel, so that the control systems can effectively control the process of Belt-material production. Therefore, how to effectively measure the velocity of belt-material is a problem worth researching.This paper will initially analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the strip-line measurement technology at home and abroad, with emphasis on the verification on Doppler effect of laser-based measurement techniques to achieve the speed strip.At the same time, according to the request on strip speed on-line measurement, the author proposed a practical design, including:optical structure, signal detection, signal processing hardware circuitry, and erected the experimental platform for measuring. Then, the author analysed it by various means of obtaining frequency and ultimately chose the Fast Fourier Transform to seek frequency. In this paper, the autor realized FFT by FPGA.Finally, this paper verified the feasibility of applying the laser Doppler effect to the strip-line measurement of the speed by experiment. Experimental results showed that the laser Doppler effect shared the superiority in the strip-line measurement of the speed, and the fast and efficient processor combined with FPGA can meet the requirements of strip-line measurement.
