Nowadays, laser diode pumped solid state laser (DPSSL) has many applications. The thermal effect of laser crystal produced by pumping light is one of the main factors affecting the characteristics of DPSSL.In the research of high power diode pumped solid state lasers, thermal deformation of lasers' end-pumped is a important problem. In this paper, we study the problem.In physics,usually first the temperature field distribution in laser crystal is found, and then the thermal distortion of laser crystal is calculated by integrating thermal strain along crystal. The constraint of different parts of laser crystal is not considered. In this paper, we analyse the easer crystal's thermal deformation by using the theory of elastic mechanics. For a given temeperature distribution, the differential equation and boundary conditions of laser crystal thermal distortion are set. The ordinarily used two-step method is simplified to one step and the new differential equation can be solved much more easily with the Galerkin method,the analytical solution of thermal distortion differential equation of laser crystal with circular cross-section has been got. A computation example is also given. The thermal deformation of laser crystal is also analysed by using ANSYS software. The difference between the thermal distortions from numerical calculation and heat fremsfer theory is given.
