Microwave multiplexers (MUX) are used in communication system applications, where there is a need to separate a wideband signal into a number of narrowband signals or to combine several narrowband channel filter into a single wideband composite signal. If we just connect several filters together to separate or combine microwave signals, this communication system might have mal-condition or might not work. Actually the channel filter affects each other severely. We need ingenious techniques to design the individual filters and the multiplexers. This article offers a optimization design techniques of parallel connect tunable multiplexers and manifold multiplexers. Firstly, a brief overview of the principles of operation and the main design considerations for several different multiplexer subsystem configurations was introduced. Further more, we discussed the elementary knowledge, the key components design method and the optimization to design multiplexer. Then, the piecewise optimization process is demonstrated through four designs. They are tunable UHF-band 4-channel multiplexer, Ku-band waveguide manifold multiplexer, UHF-band 4-channel multiplexer and hybrid–coupled multiplexer. Finally, this article gives the methods to control passive intermodulation, measure unloaded Q and to tune multiplexer.
