A high-gain, circularly polarized microstrip patch array antenna working in S-band is designed in this paper, A structure of rectangular patch antenna element is selected as dual feed points so that a circular polarization characteristics can be achieved. Planar array structure is used in order to reach the requirement of high gain.On the basis of theoretical calculations, the simulation software HFSS based on finite element method is used to simulate and optimize the microstrip patch antenna element and 2×2 antenna array. The requirements of gain, sidelobe, polarization and VSWR are reached and a model is made.The results of experiment are well matched with the results of simulation, which shows the feasibility of the design of microstrip antenna arrays.In summary, the research work of microstrip antenna array carried out by this paper has great application prospect in the technology research. The simulation and test results show that the layout of the antenna array can be applied to other band planar array antenna by appropriate changing the parameters.
