Radar vehicle frame is the main loading structure of radar vehicle and it is very heavy. Light weight research on the radar vehicle frame can reduce the whole weight of radar vehicle obviously, it has an important meaning to improve the mobility of radar vehicle and the army's combat effectiveness, reduce manufacture cost and energy consume.Now, resource is more and more scarce, atmosphere temperature is higher and higher, structure light weight research is very hot, especially, vehicle structture light weight has a great importance. In this paper, domestic and overseas research situation of structure light weight is discussed, development tendency of vehicle light weight is summarized, the difference between home and abroad is compared, base on the analysis, method of light weight of radar vehicle frame is discussed preliminarily.Then, many ways to reduce weight are discussed and compared systematically. The classification of structure optimization methods, mathematical algorithm of optimization methods and strength equivalent design by using the high strength steel plate are researched particularly. Topology optimization and strength equivalent design by using the high strength steel plate are chosed to reduce frame weight; on this basis, light weight scheme is made through analysis of the character of radar vehicle and its frame, the reasons to select this scheme are discussed also.In this paper, on the basis of certain research object, research methods, research scheme, topology optimization of braced legs of radar vehicle frame is made firstly. The design variable is relative density of design regions-braced leg; the constrain condition is residual volume of design regions after optimization; optimization bbjective is the minimum structure strain energy, then the topology optimization model of braced legs is established and optimization computing is done. Optimization result is analysed through FEA and handled to be manufactured easily, on the condition that strength and rigidity don't go down, the frame weight is reduced by 12.9%, light weight achievement is obvious.On the basis of topology optimization of braced legs, cross beam topology optimization is done. The optimization setting is same as braced leg topology optimization, then the topology optimization model of cross beam is established, the model is computed and the result is handled to be manufactured easily. By FEA of optimization result, the result of cross beam topology optimization is very good.Under circumstance that the strength is equal, to reduce the weight of frame further, common steel plate of radar vehicle frame is taken place by high strength steel plate, then steel plate'thickness of each component is rounded and FEA of the result is done. Analysis shows that the frame weight is reduced by 26.1% though strength equivalent design by using high strength steel plate, the achievement of light weight is excellent.At last, the frame' weight is decreased by 2.89 tons by a series of means of light weight. Its macroscopic scheme, research tools and operational approach of light weight provide some references and mirror for enterprises and researchers, when who reduce the weight of rader vehicle or related product. Its practical application value is high and its social effect is good.
