Along with the rapid development of the Journalism, the pattern of China's Newspaper has changed unprecedented. But compared with the News, Communications, the Newspaper editorials flags and soul" changed slowly. The Editorial has not drawn enough attention. From the Newspaper editorials quantity we can see that except the southern metropolis daily with a number of daily published editorials, other newspapers published editorials rarely. With the network media scrambling to appear and the informationization level increasing, the traditional media wants to win in the competition, besides provides news, it must return to the view from newsprint paper, because it needs to offer more valuable opinions in order to provide a freedom of information market to readers. So study the "heavy weapons" of editorial will inevitably have great value.This paper selects the Newspaper Editorials of the People's Daily and the Southern Metropolis Daily during 2008 January 1 and December 31, 2008 as the research object, using comparative journalism and sociological research methods for these two newspaper editorials in content and text analysis, so that the party and the metropolis daily editorial characteristics of various Then put some reform proposals to improve the editorials.This paper divides into four sections: The first chapter is the introduction section, expounds mainly reviewed and related research topic, and briefly introduce the ideas and methods. The second chapter firstly introduces the news commentary and editorial knowledge, the People's Daily, the characteristic of the Southern Metropolis daily newspapers and the editorial of social values. The third part is the key part of this paper. It compares and analyses the main structure variables and the content of the two daily. Through the statistics and comparative, we can see that the Newspaper Editorials are the key parts of the People's Daily and the Southern Metropolis Daily. The People's Daily's materials mainly come from the policies, decrees and conference spirit, the subjects mainly devote to political editorial, and the category of Comments mainly are explaining and recalling.While the Southern Metropolis Daily's topic draw their main attention to the major news events other than political materials. The "social model" theme takes the first place accounting for 70%. Because news events are the subjects of the editorial, so recommendation is the major comments type. As to the reporting content of the two newspaper, this paper has study from three aspects respectively, and draws the conclusion that the People's Daily is solemn, elegant editorial language analysis, pay more attention to public opinion and the Metropolis Daily have simple language, good judgment, dare to speak and dare speak seriously humanistic care, which can be proved by the following content of the paper which is about the reports during the period of WEN CHUAN earthquake of the two newspapers.The last part of the paper summarizes the similarities and differences in the organization of editorial of the two newspapers, and briefly analyses the reasons of the differences. It makes the conclusion that the party papers and metropolitan papers should learn from each other for better. In order to clearly confirm the shortcomings of our newspaper editorials, in the end of this paper puts forward some reform proposals in hopes of giving some advices to our editorial.
