Along with the rapid development of internet, people have an increasing demand for the streaming media, so that the traditional streaming media of C/S structure has not been able to satisfy massive users'online requirements. The current popular P2P (Peer-to-Peer) technology can make fully use of the idle network resource, and it also has the innate scalability. For this reason, extensive attention has been paid to the VOD technology based on peer-to-peer network in recent years. The technology about resource location in video-on-demand systems is always a challenging problem because of the peers' dynamics and the complexity of VCR operations in the system. Therefore, we will do some research on resource discovery and the strategy of location in P2P VOD system in this paper. The detailed research work in this paper includes as below:(1) First we presents the concept of streaming media and media issue technology, elaborates some peer-to-peer VOD technology.Then, this paper analyzes and compares the typical P2P streaming models and the key technologies.(2) Based on the introduction and analysis of OBN system , we apply the scheme of GGI to this system, then design a modified mechanism of finding suppliers for the P2P VoD systems.(3) After analyzing in detail key technology of a typical P2P-based Vod system P2VoD, the paper makes some improvement in topological structure and index mechanism on account of the shortage of VCR location and then designs an effective distributed location protocol.(4) On this basis , this thesis present a resource location mechanism based on sychronic_session_management and then a P2P video-on-demand system based on this mechanism(Sychronic-Session-based P2VoD,SSP2VoD)) is designed.(5) Finally, this paper compares several P2P simulators and selects P2PStrmsim as the basic simulation platform. Based on it, the simulation procedure was designed and applied to the P2P-based VoD system.At last the thesis gives a performance testing of the above protocol and system.The research has shown that the technology of P2P resource location can help users to locate needed resources quickly, and enhance the interactivity of VoD systems.Further more,the study on this project has a very positive meaning and value to the application of Video-On-Demand (VoD) in large scale.
