Power tool drop could be happened in transport, sale and usage. The drop test is required in power tool compliance test by most of countries. Traditional design is mostly based by engineer's Experience in mechanical structural design. With the increasing market competition, cost competition, the traditional design methods met many issues, such as product quality and cost control, structure miniaturization and reliability. Meanwhile, marketing demand to shorten the design period. The computer aided simulation technology provides a good solution to solve these issues. With the development of computer hardware and software technology, Calculation speed of computer has been much improved, so computational efficiency is greatly faster than before. It also accelerated to develop computer aided simulation technology. It is available to use this technology in common product design and material control. This article is based on the above. According to ergonomic requirements, the new drill must be compact structure and small size. It is very difficult to accurately evaluate the risk for traditional design. Then this article introduce drop simulation technology, it can provide good solution to this issue. Then introduce the purpose and effect. And introduced simulate application in power tool at domestic and external company. The material is very important to simulate. We did test for tensile properties of material. And introduce how to simplify 3D geometry model, how to choose the right finite element and build FEA model. Then use the material properties simulate drop test by MSC.Dytran Simulation Software. Compare the result between simulation and real test. So it is feasible to use simulation in drill drop test. Then use hi-speed video to get speed vs time history curve. Check the difference between simulation and real test to approve the precision of simulation. So simulation can make the simulating curve consistent with real test curve.If computer simulation can be carried out at the new products design stage, we can do full study and significantly improve the design by the simulation analysis. It can reduce the times of design change. Save tooling change time, and reduce the risk of project. It will shorten developing time of new product. Secondly simulation can easily learn and share the successful experience. Thirdly, simulation will monitor and encourage engineer's innovation. It will help the company to improve the core competitive ability.
