With the rapid development of wireless communication technology, the ubiquitous, high-quality wireless communications are expected by more and more people, therefore wireless access technology has also been a rapid development. Wireless MESH Network, a static multi-hop wireless network connecting routers and terminal devices with wireless links, is a type of broadband wireless access systems. Wireless MESH Network is a combination of WLAN and mobile Ad hoc network with the characteristics of reliability, self-organization and self-healing. Wireless MESH Network is treated as a good alternative to solve the last mile related problems. The idea of cross-layer design is a key theoretical innovation for next generation wireless communication systems, and different from the traditional layered design. All layers of the network are integrated as a whole to design, analyze, control and optimize. The performance of the wireless network is entirely optimized as a result of the relations between the physical layer, MAC layer, network layer and other layers. Multimedia services are becoming the main business of wireless communications and Internet services. Connectivity is provided to traditional multimedia applications for new business by wireless MESH networks, which can not be provided by other wireless networks. Multimedia services are particularly vulnerable to a variety of factors, such as throughput, PER and so on, while multimedia services have a strong need for stability of time sensitivity and bandwidth. Compared with ordinary data communications, an acceptable quality of service is supplied by multimedia communications because of more stringent requirements for QoS.In this paper, the cross-layer design model of wireless MESH network based on multimedia services is primarily researched with the cross-layer design as the main line. Considering the parameters such as throughput, packet error rate, the conflict interference, speed and path consumption, the significant improvement of network performance is simulated and verified through theoretical and computer simulation compared with the traditional cross-layer design. In all, this cross-layer design model has some applicability, which has a high reference value for the wireless MESH network of cross-layer design following related.
