Currently, Android platform is the hot point in the field of smart phone. Based on Android platform, this thesis discusses the implementation of Android communication functions with real hardware, including dialing, short message service, GPRS data services, etc. The implementation of communication functions is closely related with mobile phone communication protocols and various communication standards. In this thesis, communication protocols, used in mobile terminal, will be researched. And it will implement the communication functions, by using the protocols or standards and taking the advantage of Android telephony application framework.In the experimental environment, only one serial port is used as a communication channel for the communication between baseband processor and mobile phone operating system. For the feature of Android telephony framework, GPRS data services would not get the hardware resource to work. So it would cause resources conflict. To solve that problem, it takes the advantage of multiplexing protocol and produces some virtual data link channels. And a new multiplexing radio interface layer is constructed using those virtual data link channels. The multiplexing radio interface layer is to complete the communication between hardware and applications. It is actually a hardware abstraction layer. In the implementation, many protocols and standards will be used, such as AT command set, short message service specification, and point to point protocol. According to the above protocols and the feature of the baseband processor, the implementation will modify the telephony application framework, and improve the multiplexing radio interface layer, so as to complete the communication between the baseband processor and the system. The system validation shows that the phone, made by the way in this thesis, works correctly, and can make calls, receive calls, send SMS, receive SMS and handle GPRS data services.
