Since the plants model have high complexity and rich details, the traditional rendering algorithm based on the geometry polygon gets two main problems. Firstly, rendering of the details will cause serious alias, which leads to bad visual effect. The other one is that the rendering speed will obviously goes down when the details increasing. We study a lot of classic algorithm about the large-scale complex scenery. In this case, we bring about an advanced volumetric rendering algorithm to render the scene. And we have realized the algorithm whose rendering speed is independent of the complexity but only deponds on the resolution and other parameters of the volumetric texture.We focus on the building of the grass volumetric texture, and the rapid rendering of the scene based on the GPU programming. The volumetric texture algorithm makes a compromise between the realistic and rendering speed. In the case of keeping a good visual effect, we can obviousely increase the rendering speed. The results show that volumetric texture with GPU programming can realize the real-time rendering of the large-scale complex scenery.
