To test and evaluate radar performance adopting hardware-in-the-loop simulation can help finding potential designing risks as soon as possible, saving research costs, and shortening the research cycle.This paper first proposed the hardware-in-the-loop simulation of radar system program. The entire system is composed by the following parts:the radar signal generation and system control software, multiple vector signal Generator, performance evaluation software, tested objects, timing control systems and terminal display system. It can achieve two functions, one being the performance evaluation of the radar system, another being the debugging and performance evaluation of the radar signal processor in the development stages. Then, the approaches of radar signal generation and system control software and performance evaluation software are given, followed by the approaches of the performance evaluation of hardware-in-the-loop simulation based radar system and radar signal processor. In detail, firstly digital baseband signals are generated through the radar signal generation and system control software, put into the multiple vector signal Generator and turned into coherent analog signals required for test. Then under the unified timing control system, these coherent analog signals will be put into the tested radar system. At the same time, the statistics of the test are put into the performance evaluation software, which will give the results of the test. Finally, the radar hardware-in-the-loop simulation program is applied to the performance evaluation of the three-dimension radar signal processor, which further proves the feasibility of the program.
