The Reconstruction Magazine And Liang Qichao's Thought Of Cultural Communication In His Late Age

The Reconstruction Magazine was a major publication, which was founded during the May 4th period, formerly known as "Liberation and Reconstruction". It had founded in September 1919 and ceased in September 1922, a total of 46 published in four volumes.The publication was founded in the context of the times when intellectual simultaneously split in China and the West. After World War I, the temporary decline of Western Capitalist Civilization happened, at the same time, the outbreak of the patriotic movement during the May 4th period made the New-Culture Movement toward a more profound direction. During the may 4th period, the new ideas came in large numbers, "radical" as the age vane. But on one hand the Reconstruction Magazine spread the social new ideas, on the other hand opposed violent revolution and promoted a moderate social reformism. The "conservation" and "radicalness" co-existenced in itself and reflected diversity and complexity of cultural ideas during the may 4th period.The Reconstruction Magazine was the last publication by Liang Qichao, who was the modern well-known bourgeois enlightenment thinkers, press-activists and sinologist. Liang Qichao returned to the tradition in his later years, and he tried to seek fundamental transformation from academic in order to create a good foundation for "new China". His later years, according to the traditional definition, generally refers to 1919-1929 years of the last 10 years in his life, which was 46 years old to 56 years old. During the last decade of his life, he divorced from the politics and mainly engaged in activities of cultural communication including newspapers, periodicals, lectures and writings. He practiced his ideals of cultural transformation for Chinese society, mainly as a position of cultural communication to the Reconstruction Magazine.Therefore, to make case studies on the Reconstruction Magazine could help us to interpret the cultural thought of Liang Qichao in his later years.Liang Qichao's thought of cultural communication in his late age could mainly be attributed to the following two. Firstly, he did the excavation and communication of traditional culture, and promoted a cultural blending between East and West,which could be called "re-civilization". Secondly, he paid attention to the educational function of the press as well as nurturing a new personality and creating new nation.This approach to the study, is not only the case analysis and literature analysis, but also a comparative study of methods.
