With the rapid development of fiber communication technology, optical communication network has become the basic platform in modern communication network. However, in the common network nodes, we should transfer optical signal to electronic signal, then process it. Because the response time of optic-electronic devices and limitations of switching equipment bandwidth, there is an electron speed "bottleneck" in the network node. All-optical buffer can complete the storage of data packets in optical domain without the need of optical-electron-optical transformation; effectively overcome the electron speed "bottleneck" problem existing in communication network. And it has become the key devices in all-optical packet switched network. Optical buffer can also be used in optical packet synchronization and traffic shaping. In this paper, we did a lot of research on multi-packet signals all-optical buffering based on semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) effect. We improve the experimental system, and complete a two-cascade system experiment. The optical buffer has a simple structure, easy to cascade, easy integration, low power consumption, quick reconstruction speed, easy to control and low cost. The main work of this paper is as follows:1. Analysis of the nonlinear theory of semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), and make a detailed description of semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) nonlinear polarization rotation theory.2. Complete the welding and debugging of SOA high current drive and temperature control circuit and the integration of these circuits.3. Set up the experimental system, which is optimized to reduce the system loss.4. Complete a 2.5Gb/s signal source multi-packet buffering in a two-cascade system, with the buffer depth raise up to 90%.
