To the people who live in this era of information,the word CG is no longer an unfamiliar concept. Generaly speaking,CG is refered to digitalized works which covers a very large field. From pure art creation to movie making,advertising,animation and video game industry,CG can even be applied to the field of military and medical. As computer software and hardware technology developing more and more rapidly,CG which combines the concepts of art and technology together has already spreaded in every corner in people's life and society.CG Art mainly has three types of representations ,which are pure hand-drawing 2D,pure 3D and 2.5D(mixture of 2d and 3d). These representations all have its own characteristics which suited all kinds of people's tastes.2D CG inherits and developes the traditional artistic ways,and almost keeps the original artistic styles of traditional hand-drawing animation.Along with the rapid developments of computer graphics, using computer as a new creative media has been commited by more and more artists.From traditional canvas ,paper and brush to computer displays and all kinds of digital painting tools, this is a great enhancement to the 2D animation production.Not only from edging to shading can be easily accomplished by many sorts of digital input instruments,but more importantly the huge amount of inbetween-frames which could only be done by many people can be automaticly generated by computer rapidly, which saves a lot of work ,time and money. And the frame pictures generated are also look very detailed and beautiful,which gives people a brand new feeling of beauty.3D art has been developing in late one or two decades.Compare to 2D, 3D has an extra dimension in space.And, it has completely altered the means of 2D art creation. 3D artists can model and build very realistic objects ,scenes and environment, even lighting using 3D software and hardware technics.This approach can easily achieve many effects which could be impossible to 2D approaches,and generate very photorealistic images.Using this method, artists can totally create a brand new fatasy world which is also very convincing. While,making a compelet 3D movie means a greate cost both in money and time,which is much more higher than ordinary 2d animation.Although the cost of pure 2d animation is pretty lower than 3d,people lives in this days are already used to stunning 3d CGs.So,is there any ways to combine the advantages of those two CG creation approaches? The answer is yes. In the past few years,some people come up with a new concept which is 2.5d. Using this method,animators can combine the two different ways of CG.A common way to do this is using 3d packages to generate big scenes and buildings etc.,and drawing the characters using the 2D ways,which keeps the most of 2d art styles. Since the cost of 3d character animation is the highest in industry,and building scenes in 3D is much more cheaper,this approach of 2.5D discards the disadvantages and perfectly combines the advantages of both 2d and 3d ways which greatly reduced the cost and meanwhile improve the image quality.The most developed CG contries in todays CG industry are the USA and Japan.America has a very long history in the animation field, and also is the leader of computer technology in the world.Thus,CG art has been rooted and developing in America very early. Especially because of a huge amount of fund had been devoted by many greate film companies,3d animation in the USA are always considered as the top ones in the world.And in contries such as Japan and South Corea, CG has been well supported by the governments and has been the main income inductry in the contry which is also loved by most peoply in the contry.In China, CG art is still young and lack of development. In recent days, the Chinese government has given more and more suport to CG industry, and many CG animation pruducing base have been founded in many cities.Meanwhile,there are more and more young people starting to devote their lives to this field.But there are still many problems in the development of CG in our country.Compare to other countries such as America and Japan,CG industry in China still has a long way to go.Thus, as for the creation approaches,we should continue hold back the tradition of 2d animation.And at the same time, we should try the new ways of animation that is 2.5D.As for 3d animation, we should be more careful,because the economic envirenment in China is not ready for it. So we should prepare and wait untill the time is right to devolope 3D animation commonly. And then will be a new era of CG art in China.
