This paper mainly deals with the modeling and simulation of 3D infrared cloud background. First, the atmospheric radiation and the atmospheric transmittance are computed by MOTRAN and stored as DDS texture. Then the texture is sampled by parallel processing of GPU(Graphic Processing Unit) and the effect of atmospheric radiation and atmospheric transmission is simulated; Second, the gray image resulting from quantifying the data of clear sky radiation and infrared cloud resulting from fractals are blended by the pixel shader, then infrared sky with cloud is realized; The distant cloud is simulated by using gray image based on measured cloud data and billboard technology; The three dimensional cloud body is simulated by the particle system and the close-range cloud is obtained according to atmospheric effect and cloud radiance. Finally, simulation of 3D infrared cloud background on OGRE (Object- Oriented Graphics Rendering Engine) under different conditions is achieved.
