Because the near infrared active imaging system is widely used, the evaluation of its performance is under great attention at home and abroad. The operating distance of near infrared imaging system was mainly studied in this paper. An operating distance model of near infrared imaging system considering various effects factors of distance was established from a different point of view.Influence factors of the near infrared system operating distance mainly include the reflection radiation characteristics of target and backgrounds laser lighting system modules atmospheric transmission attenuation, infrared device properties (optical system, a detector, an electronic processing system).First, the reflection radiation characteristic of common target and background was introduced, then the attenuation character of atmosphere on laser transmission was discussed. The variation situation of atmospheric transmittance caused by heights slant and meteorological conditions was studied. Finally, the near infrared atmosphere transmission was calculated using atmosphere transmission calculation software.The system output SNR greater than that of the target’s shape and the recognition probability was adopted as principle. Based on LLL imaging system operating distance formula, An operating distance model of near infrared imaging system considering the effect factors of active illumination system was established in this paper. The paper uses MATLAB software was used to program and calculate the typical target operating distance.
