In this paper, the parameters of environment and the characteristics of waveguide formation are analyzed, and a detailed discussion about the classification, propagation conditions and transmission loss in atmospheric duct is presented. Secondly, by the derivation, comparison and analysis on the three kinds of wide-angle parabolic equation, it is found that the sub-linear transform parabolic equation which is calculated in the evaporation duct modeling has advantages of high precision and easy to calculate. The electromagnetic wave propagation in the complex environment over the sea surface is also simulated by the method of piecewise-linear wide-angle parabolic equation, and the influence of the obstacles with different heights, different shapes and different distance on the electromagnetic wave propagation in the evaporation duct environment is examined. Finally, based on the calculation results of the electromagnetic waves propagating in the evaporation duct, the refractive index profiles is inversed using the collaborative particle swarm optimization algorithm (CPSO).
