Morden phonetics is a comprehensive science that covered a wide field, the physiology, physical and psychological process of phonetic phenomena are all the scope of it. In physics, the study on acoustic parameters of voice signals is by more and more concern of Phonetics, the most common aspect is for acoustic parameters research of vowels. The experimental study which on the vowel formant is mainly about how to removal of differences, it is also known as normalization or standardization. Based on a large number of corpus analysis and general reference on previous studies, taking experiment as means, proceeding from the overall situation of phonetic system, using pattern recognition tools, the paper have done the further study on the application of standardization, and made active explorations in the research of vowel recognition in fieldwork. In the paper, firstly, the study of vowels in the phonetic domain is summarized by biological, physical and psychological aspects, including the mechanism of vowels and formant, and the existing method of formant picked-up and vowel recognition. And many concepts are discussed for new understanding. The following sections detail the K-L Transformation which is extensive application in the field of pattern recognition, and illuminate from the aspects such as definition, character, the calculation and application. The principle of standardization arithmetic comes from K-L Transform Theory. The method is based on the vowel sound system and matrix theory. Based on the standardization, simulating the K-L Transform's core process by twice, it could affect vowel recognition. The vowels in Mandarin are studied using the standardizing method to calculate formant frequence, and recorded by two groups as male and female. The conclusion part is a review and summary of the deficiencies and experiences in research, and then look forward to the use and development of vowel recognition.
