Research On Domain Ontology Building And Application For Printer

Knowledge representation and knowledge sharing are always the hot spot in the field of knowledge engineering. Domain ontology, a model which can describe the concept of domain and the relationship between concepts is a newly developed method of knowledge representation and knowledge sharing. The concepts and properties of concepts in the specified domain can be described by constructing the domain ontology, which can eliminate the internal difference of concepts and terminology and supply the common understanding.Domain ontology has been well used in many fields nowadays such as SNOMED and UNSPSC, but the utilization of domain ontology in the printer field is just at the beginning.By introducing the ontology theory, the printer domain ontology is constructed. First, the thesis captures the professional knowledge in the field of printer through the ontology, then determines the definition of the concept and relation between concepts, at last provides the common understanding for the domain ontology of printer.In this thesis, the Seven-step method is used to guide our ontology building, and Hozo is chosen as an ontology editor. The main contents of our domain ontology about printers include device concepts, function concepts and UI representation of printers. First of all. by collecting the domain information about printers, the thesis gets the non-structure based concept list, and then captures the main concepts and relation of printer domain by analyzing the concept and terminology. Meanwhile, the thesis designs the hierarchies of printer ontology. Furthermore, the thesis uses Hozo to edit domain printer ontology and save it with OWL format. Finally, the domain printer ontology is applied in the generic user interface of printers.The thesis, by building the domain ontology of printers, ensures the basic concepts and hierarchies of concepts in printer domain. At the same time, some other necessary concepts are added to the ontology. The ontology is used into generic UI of printers and has achieved the expected goal basically.
