Firstly, this paper introduces the scalable video coding scheme simply, and focuses on the key technology of spatially scalable video coding. Then this paper performs deep research on down-sampling/up-sampling, including down-sampling spatially, wavelet decomposition and fixed-coefficients interpolation methods. Base on the research above, an adaptive wiener interpolation method is proposed. What's more, this paper also discusses the combined motion estimation method that is used in spatially scalable video coding in detail, makes a lot of experiments, and proposes the combined motion estimation method based on QP. The experimental results show that the proposed method can balance the coding efficiency of the base-layer and enhancement-layer, and also improve the total coding performance. Based on the above method, this paper also proposes a coding scheme which can be used in real time spatially scalable video coding. This scheme can decrease computational complexity greatly, while does not degrade the video quality obviously. At last, inter-layer prediction method and its experimental result is presented. This paper carries out a lot of experiments based on theoretical study, and makes analysis about the experimental data minutely. The experiment results show that the proposed methods can improve the coding performance efficiently.
