With the development of micro-projection technology, projector tends to miniaturization and it is resolution is also rising. Therefore, the lighting system of the projector needs to obtain a beam with high intensity and small amount of optical expansion. According to the characteristics of micro-projection system, non-imaging optical technology was analyzed in this paper, especially the initial structure of optical devices and design methods for micro projection system. Besides, the performance of the system was also simulated and evaluated using Light Tools. Main tasks are as follows:Firstly, in this paper, the lighting system of the projector and the application of LED in lighting fields were depicted. Meanwhile, the develop- ment and the present situation of micro-projection technology based on LED were introduced.Secondly, some key theories and technologies about the lighting system of the projector were discussed. Then illumination characteristics of LED were analyzed at the same time.Thirdly, the lighting system and the fly eye lens array lighting system were compared and analyzed deeply. For the fly eye lens array lighting system, the small lenses arranged in the fly eye lens array lighting system was more, the uniformity of output illumination better. But the uniformity of output illumination will be bad while the same number of small lenses arranged in different place.In the end, we simulate ray-tracing diagrams and output illumination map of ellipsoid reflector bowl, double bowl and double parabolic reflector ellipsoid reflector bowl and obtained energy efficiency for each reflector bowl using Light Tools. A lighting system based on half sphere surface-half parabolic surface and fly eye lens array was designed and simulated, it is ray-tracing diagrams and output illumination map were obtained. The results show that the utilization efficiency and the uniformity of the output illumination have been improved greatly. Meet the design requirements.
