Infrared dim and small target detection under the conditions of complicated background is an important part of the infrared image processing fields. It is not only applied in precision guidance and infrared forewarning, but also in astronomical observation.In this paper, the small target detection of the infrared image were researched and simulation experiments were done. And it analyzes the features of noise, targets and backgrounds. In the single-frame detection, it proposes two methods on the target detection which are otsu based on high-pass filter and otsu based on morphology. On the detection of the inter-frame image sequences, the trajectory detection of spot target based on improved otsu-segment is proposed. And these algorithms prove good and better by the simulation of infrared images.
