Vehicle Recognition Technique is one of the key technologies in intelligent transportation field, vehicle-logo recognition technique is a new research direction of vehicle recognition technique, and is an important supplement and development to the vehicle recognition technique based on Vehicle License Plate Recognition and vehicle classification recognition, it has very important theoretical significance and practical value.Two key technologies are included in the vehicle-logo recognition technique: vehicle-logo location technique and vehicle-logo image recognition. Vehicle-logo is a typical technology of target detection and target location. The main task of vehicle-logo location is to detect vehicle-logo and locate it in vehicle images. As it is affected by natural background, vehicle body background, light condition, weather conditions, vehicle-logo of fuzzy, fouling and deformation and so on. Vehicle-logo location is the first and critical step in the vehicle-logo recognition system. It is a hot research issue.Based on much literature review, vehicle-logo location technique is studied, two algorithms of vehicle-logo location are proposed.For vehicle-logo location, the texture of vehicle-logo background is equivalent to noise, and is unfavorable factors. This paper presents a approach for vehicle-logo location based on texture recognition of vehicle-logo background. First, we locate vehicle-logo coarsely according to the position relation between vehicle-logo and license plate at first; secondly, we could recognize the texture of vehicle-logo background; thirdly, we adopt edge detection to suppress vehicle-logo background. The concrete practice is to carry on vertical edge detection for the vehicle-logo background with the horizontal texture, and carry on horizontal edge detection for the vehicle-logo background with the vertical texture; finally, we can locate the vehicle-logo accurately by mathematical morphology filter.There is a important characteristics of vehicle-logos that most of vehicle-logos are on the medial axis of the image of vehicle. This paper introduces an algorithm of vehicle- logo location based on medial axis and prior knowledge.First, to locate vehicle forepart by the location information of license plate in the image of vehicle. Next, recognizing the texture of the vehicle-logo background, and then executing edge detection to suppress its influence on vehicle-logo location. The concrete practice is to carry on vertical edge detection for the vehicle-logo background with the horizontal texture, and horizontal edge detection for the vehicle-logo background with the vertical texture; finally, we can locate the vehicle-logo accurately by mathematical morphology filter and Medial Axis.The experimental results show that the two algorithms have very good results to locate vehicle-logo of real images.
