With the rapid development of virtual reality and widely use of computer animation, cartoon and 3D animation are becoming popular and popular. So making and editing of animation are important and fussy tasks. It is a hotspot to research how to make and edit the animation more easily, and lighten the operator's burden. At present, animators operate the 3D models directly when they design the virtual human skeleton animations. Take example for the normal key-frame animations, operators modify every bones' position and direction in all key-frames at first. Then do the interpolation of the key-frames to form a fluent animation. There are some disadvantages of this method, for example, low efficiency, fussy operations and artificial results.Based on the above considerations, in this paper we present a template-based customization method for animation, and carry out a simple animation template system. The animation template is a biped walking motion under normal condition that defined by the script language. We aim to attach the general walking pose to any biped skeleton model, and modify the style of walking poses, for example, modify the stride, velocity, and the arm swing extent. This paper summarizes the current status of 3D human animation, related knowledge and common virtual human motion control techniques. Then, it introduces the design principle and implementation of the walking animation template system, prove the validity and universality. Finally, it improves the experiment result, optimize the calculation methods of the body center of mass, and eliminate "bound" during the virtual human walking motion. There're many advantages of using the template system to animate a character. First we don't have to do operations on the model directly, but control the parameters on the user panel. Furthermore, users can adjust the parameters freely to carry out characteristic motions depending on specific needs. Comparing to previous animation methods, our animation template, which is easier and more convenient to use, enables fast editing and modifying the animated motions.
