Automatic inspection is a morden method for dynamic management and quantification of personnel and equipment. Automatic inspection system check the maintenance work according the data record in appratus to achieve the informationization of management, and strengthen the rationalization of maintenance management to inprove maintenance level. At present in the oil industry pipelines, wells inspection management, power industry lines, equipment, inspection management, communications lines, equipment inspections and safety management and the railway management in areas such as equipment inspections are a wide range of applications. The traditional inspection system depends on the target in the inspection of the peripherals to install and requires professional inspection staff to carry large amounts of instrumentation. The costs of development and maintenance are expensive. It is difficult to control real time instance by the traditional inspection system. This paper researches the methods of automatic inspection system and put forward a automatic method based Windows Mobile smart phones, GPS, GPRS and WebGIS according the fact of inspection on base station and line about mobile communitcation. This method reduces the cost of exploitation and maintenance and achieve to control real time instance. This paper proposes an improved map matching algorithm based on the shortest path. On the fact that GPS data is collected with irregular and relatively long sample intervals ,this algorithm not only finishes map matching but also determines routes between two successive points. Finally, the content of the research are summarized, and the next phase of research and 3G era of the development of automated inspection technology for the future are prospected.
